As we continue our work developing the largest capacity underground mine in the Hunter Valley, Malabar Resources is making remarkable strides with the construction of the Maxwell Underground Longwall mine.
In July 2023, the surface-to-seam entries on our longwall mine were successfully completed. Presently, our contractor, Pybar, is working on the construction of two surface-to-seam declines, with around 1000m of driveage completed.
Key elements of our longwall strategy involve; the fabrication of new longwall equipment, manufacture and installation of many kilometres of new conveyors, and the installation of a high-capacity ventilation system. These activities are well underway, and we anticipate the completion of this state-of-the-art longwall and coal clearance system in early 2025. This investment represents a substantial commitment to our operations and the Australian underground mining industry. This new longwall system will be the first entirely new longwall system installed in Australia in recent times.
At the core of our operations is a commitment to extracting high-quality metallurgical coal, a cornerstone raw material in steel production. This strategic focus aligns with our broader mission – contributing to the economic landscape while upholding the highest standards of safety and environmental stewardship.
Looking ahead, the projected longwall mine life exceeds 25 years. This longevity not only underscores the sustainability of our operations but also positions Maxwell Underground as a significant contributor to the region’s economic prosperity and a place for long-term career opportunities.
