In rural regions like the Upper Hunter, pursuing higher education can often come with a hefty price tag. Recognising this challenge, the Upper Hunter Education Fund (UHEF) was established in 2008 as an incorporated association with a mission to provide financial assistance to young individuals in the Upper Hunter pursuing tertiary education.
For over a decade, the UHEF has been assisting countless aspiring students, offering support in various forms to alleviate the financial strain associated with pursuing higher education. From assisting with the costs of textbooks and stationery to aiding with travel and relocation expenses, the grants provided by UHEF have significantly lightened the burden on students, allowing them to focus wholeheartedly on their studies.
The impact of UHEF’s initiatives speaks volumes, with over 450 grants awarded to Upper Hunter youth pursuing diverse degrees ranging from Bachelor of Business/Law to Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Criminal Justice, among many others. Each grant represents not just financial assistance but also a belief in the potential and future success of these young individuals.
One of the key supporters of UHEF’s cause is Malabar Resources. For the past seven years, Malabar has generously sponsored the UHEF program, contributing to the educational aspirations of the region’s youth. This year, as part of the Malabar Community Sponsorship Program, a generous donation of $3000 was made to the Upper Hunter Education Fund, further cementing Malabar’s commitment to empowering the next generation.
At Malabar, we firmly believe that investing in education is investing in the future of our region. Our young people are the driving force behind progress and prosperity, and providing them with access to quality education is paramount. By supporting initiatives like the Upper Hunter Education Fund, Malabar aims to play a significant role in shaping a brighter tomorrow for our community. Together, we can build a future where every young person has the opportunity to fulfil their academic aspirations and contribute positively to society.
