This year’s theme, “50 Years of Deadly”, was brought to life at Malabar Resources’ NAIDOC Celebration at our Maxwell Underground Mine Site in Muswellbrook this week.

The day kicked off with a welcome from Malabar’s Environment, Community and Approvals Manager, Donna Tiananga, followed by a Welcome to Country by local Wanaruah woman Jade Perry. A Smoking Ceremony with Uncle Richie Lawton from Budbudda Dreaming set a powerful tone before we were moved by traditional dancing from Waagan Galga.

Steve Fordham from Blackrock Industries also joined us to speak on the importance of indigenous partnerships, a timely reminder of the value these connections bring to our communities and our industry.

The aroma of BBQ and coffee filled the air as we came together to share food, stories and connection.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for such a special day.
